“We Live Life in Forward motion, Surging ahead eyes aimed at the horizon.” From Call of the Midwife.
When Gods truth takes root, when we have rested in knowing that God is in control, what do we do next?
I love the quote from the Midwife because of the reminder that life is lived in forward motion. We can try to stay stagnant, frozen in hibernation, but life will not allow us to. It keeps moving and eventually, so must we.
Acceptance is the first step toward forward motion. If we surrender our efforts to control the things we can’t, and accept we are exactly where God wants us, here by God’s providence and sovereign will, we can begin to take steps towards something bigger than one moment or one season.
This forward motion can sometimes feel like a belly crawl. And for the adult doing so is not cute. Not when we have lived our lives in the self-reliance of having learned to walk. It is painfully hard and feels impossible. We will not understand all of God’s ways, and it will feel like our prayers accomplished nothing. But to keep on, we embrace a life of Faith. Not seeing but trusting. We remind ourselves what we are moving towards- eternity, and that what we are moving towards is so much greater than the present moment, then our motion can find wings and surge us forward!
Practically speaking, you’ve probably heard the saying put one foot in front of the other. One of the things I have found helpful in doing this is keeping a routine. When life is out of control, routine suffers. So for me, re-establishing a good routine is a priority. I am more likely to spend my time wisely if I do so. If you have fallen away from a good routine, establish a new one. Start over. Do the right things you know to do, do the next thing, keep doing life.
You might be saying to yourself, it’s way harder than I am making it seem. You are right!
Without Gods empowerment, all this would be impossible. But, because of His Spirit in us, God has made it possible. The same power that rose Jesus from the dead is at work in those who believe. So lean into God’s supernatural empowering and take hold of the strength the Lord is providing you to live one day at a time. Keep on, beloved, keep on.
