Waiting on God’s Timing

‘When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his own people, the Israelites. He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.’ (Acts 7:23-25, italics added for emphasis)

Somehow Moses in the Bible understood his life’s purpose would involve delivering the Jews from Egypt but he misjudged the timing. As a result of his own rash actions, Moses lost everything. He fled from Egypt as a fugitive, and it would be another 40 years before Moses would step into his place of calling.

Moses wasn’t wrong about his call, he was wrong about the timing. God did not intend to use 40-year-old Moses, He intended to use 80-year-old Moses. And at just the right time, an angel of the Lord appeared to Moses and the LORD commissioned him.

You may have been called by God for a particular task, but it has taken longer than you expected and the dream you once held seems far off. I imagine Moses felt the same way and worse, knowing his rash actions landed him in the wilderness far from the home he once knew. Take heart! Just as the Lord knew exactly where to find Moses in the wilderness and how to get his attention at the right time, He knows exactly where to find you and how to get your attention.
